Every year, you overeat from Thanksgiving to New Years and you gain weight. How would you like to change all that this holiday season? How would you like to be able to enjoy all the holiday goodies and actually lose weight rather than gain? Sounds impossible, right? Well, read on. Think Your Way to Your Ideal Body Weight. In the book, As a Man Thinketh, James Allen states that the body is the servant of the mind. This means that your thoughts create your body. If your thoughts have created the body you now have, then it follows that your thoughts can create the body you would like to have. You can actually think your way to your ideal body weight. Every cell in your body is affected by your thoughts. More and more scientists agree that we create our physical condition through our thoughts, which means that you can think yourself thin or think yourself fat. Here’s a bold statement its not food that makes you fat or thin its your thoughts. The body conforms to the expectations, attitudes, and beliefs of the mind. This applies to all physical conditions including health, appearance and weight. Your body creates in accordance with the instructions it receives from you mind. So, as you begin to tell your body what you expect from it, your body will begin to behave accordingly. When you consciously choose your thoughts, you can consciously choose your body. So how do you choose your thoughts? Choose Your Thoughts with Affirmations. The best way to choose your thoughts is with Affirmations. Although you may not completely believe them when you first start saying them, repetition of affirmations leads to belief. And belief leads to physical manifestation. The most important thing to remember about affirmations is to say them with feeling. As you repeat these affirmations, let yourself sink deeply into the feeling behind the statement. Why It’s Important to Stay in Contact with Your Friends when You’re in a Relationship

With the wonderful bliss that you feel when you enter into a relationship its easy to understand why we forget our friends and our everyday relationships. Is this the best way to handle a new relationship? Most likely not, sometimes in the tidal wave rush of new love we get swept away, and can forget the ties, and our desires that make us the special people we are. Have you ever noticed that in some new relationships that you get simply swept off your feet and right into a new lifestyle? It is so easy to get totally swept into different social circles, or perhaps you begin to modify your own social circle to better please your new partner. While this is an exciting time, its great to have close friends who can keep an eye on you, and make sure you are doing well. Sometimes we begin to modify our personality to better please our new partner. We may take on different likes and dislikes, which may be so different than what we enjoyed before. It is important to maintain your own identity in a new relationship, because while you may be part of a couple, you want the ability to stand on your own two feet. For example if you really enjoy painting you shouldnt have to give that up to be in a new relationship if your new partner doesnt enjoy painting. Your strong likes and dislikes should be able to come into play in a new relationship. You shouldnt have to stifle you favorite interests. Your friends can help you keep a checks and balances going, so you know youre engaging into a healthy relationship. In addition that your friends have been your basic support system before your new relationship, you are also their support system. While it can be understandable you want to spend time with your new special person, your friends were there for you before your special person was in your life. There can be hurt feelings on their side by your sudden disappearance. So keep their feelings in mind when you meet your new special person. So you do not loose their friendships. Good quality friendships provide support, fellowship, and feedback. All of those are wonderful tools when you enter new relationships simply because they can be rulers for how well a relationship is going. When you lose yourself into a new relationship you arent always benefiting yourself. Often when the newness of a relationship wears off and when you want to reconnect with your old friends, you want to make sure you havent alienated them, and that they are still there with their support, fellowship, and feedback. FDA Lifts Silicone Gel Breast Implant Restrictions

By Ron Swerdfiger The Food and drug Administration has decided to reverse the 1992 ruling and lift the 14-year ban on the use of silicone breast implants in the United states. Two California-based companies, Mentor and Allergan, have been approved to manufacture and sell what experts say is a newly designed and safer silicone implant. Dr. Daniel G. Schultz, director of the F.D.A.s Center for Devices and Radiological Health, said that the F.D.A.s review of company-sponsored studies on silicone implants, as well as long-term use of the implants around the world, was enough to approve the use of the implants in the best interest of American women. Dr. Schultz cautioned however, that no device is completely foolproof and some implants may need to be replaced eventually due to leaks or ruptures. Women should know that breast implants are not lifetime devices, he told reporters over the phone last night. Women having these procedures done need to be prepared for the fact that there is a likelihood they will require additional surgery, he added. He also recommended regular M.R.I. scans to monitor for signs of silent rupture, which can occur without the womans knowledge and lead to silicone in the bloodstream among other complications. Schultz suggested the first test be conducted after three years of use. Due to the cosmetic nature of most implant procedures, it is not yet clear whether those diagnostic scans would be covered by medical insurance. Dr. Scott L. Spear, chief of plastic surgery at Georgetown University, who conducted research for Irvine California-based Allergan,, said the devices are greatly improved since the early 1990s. The shells themselves are made of different materials, a barrier shell, that is relatively much more impermeable, he described. The shells are thicker than in 91, much thicker than they were in earlier generations. The material inside is more cohesive, the stuff tends to stick together. Some health experts remain unconvinced, and criticized the agencys decision to lift the ban. Dr. Sidney Wolfe, chief of Public Citizens Health Research Group, which led the charge to ban the silicone enhancers in the 80s due to concerns over cancer and other diseases, called the implants the most defective medical device ever approved by the F.D.A. Amy Allina, program director at the National Womens Health Network, also sharply disapproved of the decision, stating the agency gave the implants the green light despite the manufacturers inability to answer basic safety questions, such as exactly how long implants would last without rupturing, and whether there would be adverse health effects if the silicone leaked and traveled to other areas of the body. We have been looking at this data continuously for the last 10 years. We have been watching as data had been collected, we have been watching as data has accumulated, said Schultz. We believe that from a scientific standpoint, the decision that were making tonight is, in fact, in the best interest of American women. He added the agency would require the companies to conduct ongoing post-surgery studies involving a total of 80,000 subjects to continue monitoring the safety of the gel implants. He said the F.D.A. is interested in information relating to rates of rupture, cancer and autoimmune diseases and effects of the implants on reproduction which would enable the agency to evaluate concerns about the implants in a large number of women. Schultz also stated that the implants would be available to all women for reconstruction from breast cancer trauma or to those affected by development disorders of the chest, but that women who simply wanted a cosmetic enhancement would be required to be over the age of 22. Schultz said this regulation was put in place to ensure that patients would be fully developed in the breast before having the implant surgery. 10 Tips for Long Term Weight Loss

By Robert DiMaggio 1. Do some resistive weight training 3 to 4 times a week using short rest periods between sets of 30 to 60 seconds. Work out no longer than 1 hour to keep your anabolic (muscle-building) hormones high and catabolic (muscle-wasting) hormones low. Over-training is a quick way to lose muscle along with fat. Maintaining muscle is the goal, and it will help keep your metabolic rate high so that fat loss continues at a steady pace. Attempt to lose no more than 1 to 1.5 pounds of fat per week. 2. Avoid traditional long duration cardio, instead perform HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) 2-3 times per week on alternating days or after weight training to burn fat and increase metabolic rate. HIIT cardio is best done on alternating days from weight training if possible. 3. Watch what you eat. Beware of low-fat or fat-free products. Typically, these products are loaded with carbohydrates and while you are not getting the fat, you may be getting way too many calories from simple carbohydrates. Avoid simple sugars and eat complex carbohydrates in moderation to reduce insulin output and prevent blood sugar fluctuations. Insulin is the main hormone responsible for storing body fat, and high insulin levels prevent the burning of stored body fat for energy. High-carbohydrate diets are not the optimal way to lose fat while preserving lean muscle. Rely on complex, high-fiber carbohydrates such as oatmeal, lentils and brown rice. Avoid breads, pasta, white rice and other highly processed, low-fiber carbohydrate sources, as well as sweets. As a guide, reduce carbohydrate intake to 0.8 to 1.2 grams per pound of body weight. For example, a 150-pound person would eat between 120 and 180 grams per day of carbohydrates (150 x 0.8 = 120 / 150 x 1.2 = 180). 4. Increase the amount of lean protein you consume daily to increase your metabolic rate, increase anabolic hormones and prevent muscle loss during dieting. Lean muscle mass is the active tissue that burns calories and maintains metabolic rate. The goal is to preserve the active tissue we want while encouraging the body to reduce the tissue (fat) we don’t want. Eat high-quality, low-fat protein sources like skinless chicken, lean red meat and seafood during your weight loss program. High-quality protein supplements may be used when the diet does not yield enough daily protein. 5. Reduce saturated fats whenever possible and replace with polyunsaturated fats such as flax oil and monounsaturated fats such as olive oil and avocados. Polyunsaturated fats are considered “good fats” and should be a part of your diet. Research shows that omega-3 oils from many sources of fish like cod, flounder, haddock, monkfish, perch, red snapper, sea bass, salmon and tuna help improve health and fat loss. Essential fatty acids (EFA) are required for optimum health and fatty acid metabolism. Avoiding “good fats” is a sure way to sabotage a fat-loss diet and degrade your health. 6. Drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day to prevent dehydration and help liberate fat stores to be burned as energy. Water intake is often cited as the most underrated and overlooked part of fat loss. 7. Eat fibrous vegetables to increase transit time of food, improve digestion and improve weight loss. Increasing fiber intake from vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower and other raw vegetables adds fiber, minerals and vitamins with very few calories. They add bulk to the diet while reducing appetite. 8. Spread food intake over 5 to 6 meals per day. Distributing your food throughout the day will improve nutrient absorption, prevent blood sugar fluctuations and decrease fat-storing hormones and fat-storing enzymes. Simply spreading the same number of calories over 5 to 6 small meals per day rather than the standard 3 meals per day will improve fat loss due to the above effects on blood sugar, hormones and fat-storing enzymes. 9. Avoid alcohol (or keep it to a minimum) while you’re dieting. Alcohol contains nearly 7 calories per gram, and is easily metabolized and stored as fat. When you consume alcohol with a meal, your body will metabolize the alcohol first. The rest of the calories and the excess alcohol calories inevitably will be stored as fat. Alcohol is generally regarded as empty carbohydrate calories because you get no other nutritional benefit as you would from the vitamins, minerals and fiber that you get from the carbohydrates in fruits and vegetables. 10. Be snack smart. When you must have a snack, make a smart choice. Avoid sugary or fatty snacks like chips and soda, crackers, nuts, frozen yogurt and so on. Instead, try some air-popped popcorn (no butter or salt) or a slice of lean meat like turkey. When you space your meals to 5 or 6 a day, snacking becomes less important to you. Check the nutritional panels on your snacks for sugars and fats, remembering that fat-free does not mean calorie-free, and remember, excess carbohydrates in your diet will be stored as fat. By Garrett Coan Most of us have to work for a living. Since we spend so many hours each week at our jobs, its very important that there is a good fit. If you have been feeling less enthusiastic about your work situation recently, maybe you have even begun to wonder if it is time to move on. Here are seven signs that your job is no longer the right one for you. 1. You no longer look forward to going to work in the morning. This may seem obvious, but many people overlook it because it happens gradually. Think about how you felt when you first started working at your company. Most people feel pretty excited about their work in the beginning, looking forward to each day and thinking about the projects they will be working on. Its normal for that enthusiasm to tone down somewhat, but if you notice that you are feeling bored, indifferent, or actually wish you didnt have to go, maybe its time for a change. This is especially true if youre spending 60 hours a week at your job, which is not unusual in todays workplace. You owe it to yourself to do something that gives you satisfaction. Try to identify what part of your work situation is bothering you. Distinguish between the aspects that you can fix and the things that you can do nothing about. If you can figure out how to spend more time on the job doing things that you enjoy, you may once again find yourself more eager to get to work in the morning. 2. You have lowered your standards. Most of us take pride in our work and our careers, and therefore set high standards for ourselves. If you have begun to allow yourself to turn in work thats just good enough to get the job done, you have let your standards slide. This is dangerous because when you compromise your personal standards, your self-esteem will fall. To remedy this problem, think about why it is happening. Maybe this kind of work no longer presents a challenge to you. If that is true, identify the types of projects that will get you excited. Perhaps you can volunteer for assignments outside your department. But if you cant figure out a way to jump-start your job, you may want to start thinking about a change. 3. You have lower self-esteem. If you no longer receive praise or acknowledgment for your work, its normal both to wonder if the company no longer values you and to second-guess your own abilities. If you feel like you can discuss this with your boss, do so. Ask for specific feedback about your performance. You will either learn that you are more valued than you thought, or you will find out what you need to work on. Another option is to talk with a trusted coworker or with someone who knows your bosss leadership style. Maybe he or she gives people feedback only when there is a problem. Some supervisors dont understand that people need feedback when things are going well, not just when there is a problem. If this is true, you will have to decide whether you want to stay with a boss who keeps you in the dark. It may be worth it for you to stay where you are, since most bosses eventually move on. 4. Your supervisor doesnt help you grow and develop. Without support for career development, you will eventually reach a dead end. There are a number of ways this may be evident. Perhaps you ask to attend professional conferences (including inexpensive local ones), but your requests are turned down because there are no budget dollars available. Or you are not allowed to participate in cross-functional teams that would enable you to develop new skills. These blocked opportunities may happen because your boss may feel threatened, or he or she may fear losing you if you develop too many skills. In some cases, the boss just doesnt know how to develop people. You may not have to leave your job to solve this problem. You can make a decision to manage your own career development. Take classes on your own time. Join a professional association and attend their meetings. Do everything you can to keep growing. Eventually, of course, if your boss continues to limit you, you will feel the effects on the job and you will have to decide when it is time to move on. 5. You get stuck with low-profile assignments. This happens to everyone at one time or another. It may be a one-time situation, where somebody needs to do the project, and its your turn. But what happens when one dead-end assignment follows another? This could become a problem if you feel like you are drifting along with a series of these projects. This could be a sign that you are perceived as less competent and less valuable. If you think it is not too late to turn things around, then resolve to regain control of your place in the organization. Talk to your boss about what you want to do next. Ask what you need to do to participate in more challenging projects. Listen to your bosss feedback and do what is suggested. 6. You have been pigeonholed. It is not uncommon to become identified with your first position or with a project that you managed earlier in your career. Even though you learn new skills and get promoted, people may associate you with your previous experiences. This happens often to people who start their careers in hourly or administrative jobs and earn promotions to management levels. Even though you are no longer a secretary, you are still asked to take minutes at the managers meeting. The challenge is to find a way out of the pigeonhole and keep your career from being stalled. To resolve this problem, ask your boss to give you a chance to do a special project that will change the way people see you. This could be a unique assignment that will require just a small percentage of your time during a specified period. Offer to do the assignment as a test, and be sure to guarantee that you will do the rest of your job in a satisfactory way. If the project is successful, both you and the company will benefit. If your boss agrees to this project, you may be able to move beyond the role you have been typecast in. If not, you will have to decide whether you want to stay with the department or the company. 7. You no longer respect the company you work for. Most people want to be proud of the organization they work for. When you tell others what you do and you dont mention the companys name, thats not a good sign. It could mean that your values are no longer in synch with the companys values, and this is making you feel very uncomfortable. If this is the case, and if it is unlikely to change, the best strategy may be to begin to look for an employer who shares your values. The Art Of Flattery - Using Flattery To Become More Attractive

By Christine Akiteng Many people completely hate the word “flattery” and to even say there is an art to this makes them shudder with total disgust. In a culture where everything is either right or wrong with very little room for the grays in between, I can understand why the word flattery rubs people the wrong way. I can also understand why many are sickened to the stomach because flattery is often associated with compromising ones values and integrity. But is flattery always a bad thing? And does flattery always have to be insincere? Does flattery make you more attractive and should you use the art of flattery on the men/women you find attractive? Personally I find that mild flattery does often move things along more pleasantly than outright candidness. While excessive insincere praises intended to put the other person into the position of owing something to the flatterer is cheap and cheesy (and often reveals emotionally “needy” personality out for approval), a little flattery does help to quickly warm up first meetings or bridge relationship gaps. For example starting off your conversation with a statement like You look gorgeous is surely better than starting with You forgot to put on your make-up today. By offering positive reinforcement, you are not only making the person feel good about herself but you are taking the small extra effort to actually show the person that you care about how she feels. She may come back with I dont have my make-up on to which you can respond with You still look good. But when you say I couldnt even tell you did not have make-up on or You look like you have make-up on, youve crossed over to the excessive insincere praise. In terms of bridging relationship gaps, a little flattery goes a long, long way. Say you are the hottest woman in your workplace or even at a party, taking the time to shake hands with the office boy or cleaner, or saying hi to the geeky-looking guy standing all by himself not only makes their day (they will be talking about it for days) but moves them away from feeling like a nobody in the eyes of society to somebody to those present (and to himself). Just by a simple gesture you show the person that you care about how they feel. Did I mention youll be ever so hotter! Having said that, I do not advocate using flattery to manipulate anothers self-doubt or use their feelings of inferiority against them. Using flattery for personal gain has its own come back to bite your ass consequences. You cant get round using flattery to always get what you want without starting to feel empty, phony, lonely and depressed. You can never genuinely and deeply connect with others if you are manipulating their feelings. Also keep in mind that flattery works for about 95 percent of people. Recognizing situations where flattery is appropriate is the secret of the art of flattery!
