Useful Information About Plastic

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

By Thomas Morva The word plastic is derived from the Latin word plasticus which means “capable of being molded.” Indeed, plastics are moldable synthetic materials made up of a large organic molecule that can be formed into a variety of products. Depending on its purpose, plastics can be made as hard as stone or as pliable and elastic as rubber. Plastic can also be made to be as strong as steel, impact-resistant and heat-resistant. The processes involved in manufacturing the different kinds of plastic varies, and like metals, may be alloyed, or even combined with other materials. The other qualities that make plastics more distinct are being lightweight, waterproof and chemical resistant; they may also be produced in almost any color. More and more types of plastic are being studied and developed daily to further enhance the quintessential product that everybody benefits from. Plastics also come in a variety of kinds, although all share the common characteristic of malleability or plasticity, they differ in properties, production costs, and the process of making them. Although plastics may be classified in many ways, they are commonly categorized based on the polymer element that is used as the basis in their production. Common Plastics and How We Use Them Inevitably, plastics have become a part of our lives. Life would certainly be very difficult without them. The countless kinds of plastics have found their way into industries and our homes and have gained permanency in both settings. The most commonly used plastics are: polyethylene, which has a wide range of uses and is very inexpensive; polypropylene used for the production of food containers and appliances; polystyrene (or Styrofoam) commonly used for disposable food containers; polyamide or nylon for toothbrush bristles and fishing lines; polyester for textiles. There are also special purpose plastics such as Teflon used in frying pans and water slides; polyurethane for insulation and upholstery foams; Bakelite insulation for electrical fixtures. Despite all the advantages of using plastics, its threat on the environment has become increasingly intense since it degrades very slowly and when burned produces toxic fumes. Also, plastic production creates chemical pollutants which affect both the air and water and uses up the limited supply of fuel fossils. In order to alleviate the losses of the environment, it is always best to recycle plastics to either be used again to be re-processed into other products. Plastic provides detailed information on Plastic, Plastic Bags, Plastic Containers, Plastic Pants and more. Plastic is affiliated with Custom Plastic Bags. Get a Job! Tips for Organizing Your Resume

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

By Stacey Agin Murray Whether you’re a Vice President of Marketing or a recent college grad, your resume is the ‘key’ to opening the doors of employment. It is an employer’s first impression of you and believe it or not, many hiring officials spend less than thirty seconds reviewing it. With only fleeting moments to make a first impression, it is imperative that your resume be organized. Polish your shoes, practice your handshake, and take note of some tips for creating an organized resume that will catch the eye of even the most weary of HR associates: Start by sitting down with your old resume and a timer. Give yourself fifteen seconds to read it. How far did you get? Were you able to read the whole page? Besides ‘getting your foot in the door,’ your goal is to create a resume that can be scanned top to bottom in less than 30 seconds. It must be organized to punctuate your strengths and highlight your employment-related achievements. Next, give yourself another fifteen seconds but this time skim your resume as if you were the person doing the hiring. What parts stood out? Was it a bold or italic phrase? Was it a tabbed column of words or a dollar sign? Think about what words or sections jumped out at you, circle them in red, and use them within the body of your new resume. For another opinion, take a fresh copy and ask a friend or family member to do the same. On scrap paper, create a chart and write all of your past jobs across the top of the page. Below each job title list at least 2-4 duties/accomplishments relating to the position. Analyze each of those and ask yourself: Does this achievement have any relevance to the job I’m now pursuing? Will the reader of my resume be impressed by the money I’ve saved the company/the body of work I created/the skills I’ve acquired? If your answer is yes, the next step is to prioritize those duties and/or accomplishments. For example, let’s say you are an administrative assistant listing relevant duties and achievements from your last job. This is your newly-brainstormed, non-prioritized list: answered phone calls created and color-coded filing system to support VP of Sales coordinated supervisor’s travel arrangements saved Sales department $12,000 by researching companies and switching office supply vendors Now, take a moment to prioritize your list. Which description should be listed first? Which of the four will quickly catch the reader’s eye? Depending upon the type of job you’re applying for, if you saved your former company any money or increased their productivity in any way, that fact should be listed first. Now read the list: saved Sales department $12,000 by researching companies and switching office supply vendors created and color-coded filing system to support VP of Sales coordinated supervisor’s travel arrangements answered phone calls Always position your strongest achievement first. Either they’ll be impressed and move on or think ‘Wow!’ and continue reading directly below. An eye-catching first statement will positively affect every statement listed beneath it so choose wisely. Use Bulleted Lists. As opposed to a sea of text, a bulleted list focuses the eye to a specific area on the page. They are often used to highlight your accomplishments instead of hiding them within bulky paragraphs. Example: Saved Sales department $12,000 by researching companies and switching office supply vendors. Created and color-coded filing system to support VP of Sales. Coordinated supervisor’s travel arrangements. Answered phone calls vs. saved Sales department $12,000 by researching companies and switching office supply vendors created and color-coded filing system to support VP of Sales coordinated supervisor’s travel arrangements answered phone calls Remember, one of your goals is to make reading your resume as easy as possible. The reader’s eye will dart straight to the bullet and focus on what is written to it’s immediate right. If you want to hold the reader’s attention, use ‘action words’ (verbs) next to a bullet (see example above). Employing strong action words will assist the reader in visualizing you carrying out those tasks for their company. To an HR official, an organized resume can be interpreted as the sign of an organized person. An organized person has the potential to have an organized desktop, organized file cabinets and organized work habits. These are skills and qualities that employers desire in an employee. If you can present a company/organization with an organized resume it will put you one step ahead of your less organized competition. BONUS TIP: Do not make 100 copies of your resume until at least one other person has reviewed it for errors and inconsistencies. Five minutes of ‘editorial prevention’ can mean the difference between getting an interview or getting a rejection letter. A Woman’s Guide to Waxing Unwanted Hair

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

By Megan Halloway It’s tough to be beautiful. There’s the curling, the scrubbing, the coloring, the endless work, toil and sweat. It can also be painful. What woman hasn’t suffered from a too-hot curling iron or too-sharp razor? But at the top of the list we find waxing. An essential task, to be sure, but also dicey. You want to make sure it’s done right, quickly and will be effective with a minimum of pain. Waxing is a relatively simply process, really. Think “wax on, wax off”, and you’ll likely get the idea. Hot wax is applied to the area that needs hair removal, then quickly pulled off and unwanted hairs go with the wax. It can be fairly painful, but the pain is quick and the wax process, fortunately, doesn’t need to be repeated very often. Herewith are various types of waxes, from a lesser “ouch” factor to a mighty “ouch”! *Eyebrow (ouch factor of 2) - Eyebrow waxing is a type of waxing you can do yourself at home, though it’s never a bad idea to consult a professional. If you are going to wax your eyebrows yourself, you should always wax from below the eyebrow, not above. Take very little hair off at a time, and be careful of the hot wax being so close to your face. Because the skin above the eye is so sensitive, it’s really recommended you consult a professional for this task. *Full Face (ouch factor 2) - This involves removing the facial hair you might have around the mouth, cheeks, jaw and chin. You can do this yourself, perhaps even make the wax yourself, but again, experts recommend using a professional since the facial skin is so delicate. *Legs (ouch factor 3-4) - This is probably the method of waxing most women are familiar with. In the summer, many women choose leg waxing as the preferred method for hair removal since it is generally considered superior to shaving and saves time in those busy summer months - a good leg wax can last as long as 8 weeks. *Bikini (ouch factor 8-10+) - The big daddy of waxing, the various types of bikini waxes are not for the faint of heart. They are for women who want clean, cool nether regions for summer, and aren’t too modest, since they should only be done by a trained and experienced professional. There are a few different types: *Bikini - The basic bikini wax involves removing the pubic hair around the bikini panty line. This is delicate territory, so it’s recommended you take an ibuprofen an hour or so before getting it done. But since there are more involved bikini waxes, we’ll give this one an 8 on the pain scale. *Full bikini - This is also known as a Brazilian bikini wax and it’s the latest, hottest thing in waxes. Seven Brazilian sisters brought this wax to the United States and in a short period of time, this type of wax has overtaken any other bikini wax. In short, it’s a full bikini wax, where only the pubic hair just around the labia is left. Otherwise, you’re bald as an eagle, which might serve you if you wear a thong in the summer or just want to change your life, which is allegedly what Brazilian wax did for Gwyneth Paltrow. This is a full 10 on the pain scale, but many women claim it’s the bomb. 9 Pros And Cons Of A Compensation Claim

Monday, December 17th, 2007

By Mohammad Latif The claims culture arrived and it was chaos. Door canvassers and telesales, knocking and ringing constantly for an injury claim. Have you had an injury? Have you had an accident in the last 3 years? It went ballistic, new companies evolving and new tricks came into place that would work against you. The 9 Pros and Cons… The Salespeople Avoid these people who stop you in the streets, shopping center or at the hospitals! They don’t give a damn about you and surely don’t give a toss what the outcome is, of your injury claim. They work on a commission basis. The Agreement Did you ever understand what was said before you signed the agreement? I guess not. ‘Don’t worry it doesn’t mean anything, the company will contact you and sort it out’. Did they ever? Today there is so much jargon, i.e. crap, out there that many people just ignore a claim for compensation even if they have an injury. The Bank In the beginning it was always a helping hand with your claim, until it was settled, with insurance and loan deductions. Policies were taken out in the thousands which back fired. And guess who provides the financially funded policies? The BANKS! The Loan A loan agreement to fund a claim is unnecessary, but the salespeople claim ‘otherwise it’s not possible to be compensated and you’ll have to fork out a couple of hundred upfront to get started’. However, the deduction is phenomenal as the interest accumulates over the period of the claim. It could last up to 2 years and it gets deducted from your compensation. The BIG & small Company It didn’t help the victims as it was deducted from their compensation, but surely helped the BIG companies, who have now declared bankruptcy with millions ’scoped’ from their victims. But today you have smaller companies doing a similar trick, we’ll do this and we’ll do that… with their technical wording. You’ll get confused just like food, this many calories, protein and fat. There is so much advertisement going around that you just think forget it, stick to what we normally do. NOTHING! The Law Compensation is an entitlement by law, for release of funds to the injured for being involved in an accident or being injured to some form. Accidents do occur, that’s life as nobody’s perfect. But with the media filling our heads with different slogans, headlines and examples, we get more confused even when it all means the same thing. The Media On TV, there’s new advertisers showing victims of accidents and how they have had an accident. But what they don’t realise is, each accident is unique, so why portray victims as happy as they could ever be with their payouts. Imagine you doing that? It’s a marketing stunt. But unfortunately many do fall for it. The Solicitor Specialist solicitors in claims should only handle your case, not a solicitor with a commercial background. So you need a solicitor with experience in the appropriate field to handle an injury or accident claim. The Internet Browse from one site to another is not going to help. You’ll be there all night, all week, all month or all year and still never make a claim for compensation. Their technical jargon, all mean something similar. We’ll do this and we’ll do that. Find something simple that will help. Now that you are geared with such knowledge, do yourself a favour? Apply it! It’s easy to make a compensation claim without any cons in place and plenty of pros. Average Testimonials Vs. Great Testimonials & Why It Matters to Your Marketing

Friday, December 14th, 2007

By Ryan Healy Testimonials can make the difference between average marketing and great marketing. Why? Because testimonials are one the strongest forms of proof you can offer to substantiate the claims you make about your product or service. Most business owners don’t use testimonials at all. If they do, they settle for average testimonials and don’t bother putting in the effort to get great testimonials. So what makes a testimonial average? What makes it great? I’ll tell you. An average testimonial is vague, lacks specific results, and hides the identity of the person who gave it. For example, “Your company is really great. You helped me a lot.” –John B. Notice how this testimonial is completely flat. No benefit is stated. No specific result is given. And because John doesn’t give his full name, we have no idea who he is. He could be imaginary for all we know. Contrast that average testimonial with this one: “Ryan’s sales copy pays for itself. When he created a promotion to sell our Global Puzzle, I was absolutely shocked when I saw the numbers coming in. One email he wrote sold 1,472 puzzles in only 13 days for $28,630.40 in gross retail revenue. Amazing!” –Roger Andresen, Atlanta, GA In this case, we have a clear benefit, specific results, and a full name for attribution. Plus, we have the city and state where the person lives. Because of this level of detail, readers are much more likely to believe it. Now, how could this testimonial be strengthened? Four things come to mind: Use the person’s photo.Record the testimonial for audio playback.List the person’s web site if he has one.Use the person’s digital signature. Testimonials are worthless if they aren’t specific and credible. Without specificity, readers assume your product must not be that great. Without credibility, your readers may not believe your testimonials are real. (Some unscrupulous business owners really do fabricate testimonials.) Follow these simple suggestions and you’ll instantly strengthen your advertising, your marketing, and your overall ability to attract new customers and clients. The Wedding Party Make it Memorable

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

By Gordon Petten The actual ceremony is often the most important part of the wedding day to the bride and groom and close family and friends, but the wedding party is what most people ultimately remember and the key is to make sure that you adequately provide for all the guests with great food and entrainment. These are the two key aspects of any good party and a wedding party is no different. In this article we will cover on what you can do to make your wedding party as special as the wedding itself. The first and most important aspect of the party that we will address is the food. Your guests are going to be giving you a lot of expensive and wonderful presents so you want to make sure that you offer them a full buffet with appetizers, multiple courses, and desert. You need to first establish how many people will be coming to your wedding and then determine how much food you think you should order. Make sure that your order is larger than what you expect since it is much better to have more food than to come up short. You also want to make sure that you order food from a classy restaurant well in advance so that you know it will be ready when it is time for your wedding. Entertainment can often be created on the spot or planned the night before (though I strongly suggest you don’t do this), but if you don’t have the food, you don’t have the food and there is little you can do. Pick a restaurant and place an order week in advances so that the restaurant has time to prepare for this order and when it comes time to make the food, they are able to do it and you will have the food ready. Some couples will order large quantities of food from restaurants, while others will hire a full catering service. I recommend that you utilize a catering service as they will make and serve the food throughout the party. As far as entertainment is concerned, the one thing you need is music and dancing so be sure to hire a DJ and to book a venue with a dance floor or an area to dance. This is not always possible due to schedule conflicts and price, but it is always special to have a live performer at the wedding. If you know that you have adequately planned for the food and entertainment to be provided at your wedding party, everything else should fall into place. Christianity and Tattoos

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

By Michael Tummillo I received an eMail today from a man who owns a tattoo shop located downtown. The man wrote me in response to a message I had just broadcast and he felt compelled to respond. More about him in a moment. After reading his response, I couldn’t seem to get the subject of tattoos and body piercings out of my head. I recalled a British minister - a man in his late 50’s at the time - testifying that the Lord had directed him to pierce an ear in the fashion of the bond servant referred to by the apostle Paul. Such a servant would have his ear pierced his master as a sign that he would serve him forever. When this minister obeyed, he claimed that many more young people were attending his meetings as a result. After a class I was teaching, an attendee mentioned to me that his Christian son showed up on a construction site where he encountered a heavily-tattooed man. The Christian struck up a conversation with the tattooed man who commented that he was surprised that he spoke to him as hardly anyone every did so. He believed this was because of all his tattoos, giving the Christian the in-road to minister to him. I remembered a Christian biker preaching from the pulpit, his Popeye forearms covered with tattoos as he spoke, and how the young guys flocked around him to talk afterward. MAN LOOKS AT THE OUTSIDE. GOD LOOKS AT THE HEART. Getting a tattoo is all the rage these days, and many Christian are trying to decide if they should get a tattoo or not. To tattoo or not to tattoo? THAT is the question. What does the Bible say? Many Christians will quote Leviticus 19:28 as support to their claim that Christians should never get a tattoo: “Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.” - Leviticus 19:28. Can one believe that Jesus is Lord and that He came to save the world through grace and love and still accept this verse as applicable to us today? It sounds harsh, but it’s true. Why? The answer is simple. Christ gave us a New Law, one that supersedes Old Testament Laws like this one in Leviticus. Oddly, proponents of this verse neglect to consider some other verses in that same book, Chapter 19. There’s verse 9, that says: “When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest.” Verse 19 reads: “Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed. Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material.” Verse 26: “Do not eat any meat with the blood still in it.” Verse 27: “Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.” Verse 28: “Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord.” As you can see, many of the other rules laid out in Leviticus are not followed today. This does not mean that the whole book of Leviticus, or even the Bible itself, should not be followed. It just means that we need to carefully analyze what the theme of the Bible is, and realize what it means for us today. The book of Leviticus contains laws intended to keep the children of Israel healthy and holy for God. Tattoos were extremely dangerous and could result in injury, disease, or death. The verse also refers to a pagan ritual of putting tattoo marks on oneself for the dead, in order to protect oneself from the spirit world and the wrath of other gods. Many Christians do not fully understand the saving grace that was given to us through the humanity and death of our Lord, Jesus Christ. We are under a new covenant where His sacrifice covers our sins in a different way than the old Levitical laws did, which is seen in the letter to Hebrews which states: But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises. For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another, Hebrews 8:6-7. Now, this does not give us license to sin (we don’t need one for we will all sin anyway; it’s what we do). We are still responsible for our behavior and how it affects our spiritual lives and the lives of others. For example, the letter to the Romans states: Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble. It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall. -Romans 14:20-21. From this we can see that it is important to think carefully through all of the effects that getting a tattoo can have on oneself, on our relationships, and on ones future. For some this may mean that getting a tattoo will increase their ability to witness to others, while in other communities having a tattoo would greatly diminish this ability. SHOULD A CHRISTIAN GET A TATTOO? The conclusion then is that there may not be an answer to Should Christians get tattoos? Each of us may have to answer this question for ourselves after taking time to think and pray about it. But, let’s be careful not to shun those who have sell or display tattoos, or make the blanket statement that they can’t be a Christian because they have a tattoo. To do this would be destroy the work of God instead of taking time to reach the lost. The burden lies with those Christians who choose to get a tattoo. They need to prove to their critics that their faith is based on more than just tattoos; it is supported by good works as well. And they must pray as often as possible that divisive but trivial issues (such as body art) are cast aside in favor of more pressing problems: inequality, hunger, Christian unity and spreading the Good News. Here are some verses that display at least an acknowledgement of religious markings: “And it shall be to you as a sign on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes, that the law of the LORD may be in your mouth.” -Exodus 13:9 “It shall be as a mark on your hand or frontlets between your eyes; for by a strong hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt.” -Exodus 13:16 In these two quotes from Exodus, God is telling his people that while many - especially pagans - use tattoos and religious totems, He will give the Jews something greater: a celebration of the day they were saved and brought out of Egypt. For the Jews, this will be their unique mark. This seems to contradict our position. However, the verses show that tattoos were a normal aspect of society. God never tells the people that tattooing is wrong or immoral. He doesn’t even say that they need to stop doing it. He only tells them that He will make them different than all others through their celebrations. “This one will say, ‘I am the LORD’s,’ another will call himself by the name of Jacob, and another will write on his hand, ‘The Lord’s,’ and surname himself by the name of Israel.” -Isaiah 44:5 “Behold, I have graven you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me.” -Isaiah 49:16Here Isaiah is speaking God’s word to the more conscious minorities of Israel who, during their exile, are worried about becoming lost amidst the pagans of Babylon. Through Isaiah, God reminds His people that he will never forget them because He loves them, and as proof that He will never abandon them, He tells the Jews that He has graven [carved into...written permanently] on his hands a reminder to save them. “And the LORD said to him, ‘Go through the city, through Jerusalem, and put a mark upon the foreheads of the men who sigh and groan over all the abominations that are committed in it’.” -Ezekiel 9:4 The mark in this verse refers to the letter “T” or the Hebrew letter “Tau,” which appears as the shape of a cross, and which was painted in lamb’s blood on the door posts to save the “remnant” of Israel when God wiped out all the first born of Egypt during the last plague. In this instance, the mark will be placed upon believers who are saddened by the sins committed in Jerusalem. “Henceforth let no man trouble me; for I bear on my body the brand marks of Jesus.” -Galatians 6:17 Here, Paul is likely discussing the beatings and punishments he endured for the sake of the Gospel of Christ (see 2 Cor. 11:24-28). This is a pointed jab at those who believe they are justified by other marks, that is, circumcision. Undeniable, though, is the tattoo imagery. Brand marks are what Roman slave owners tattooed on their chattel to display ownership. “Then I saw another angel ascend from the rising of the sun, with the seal of the living God, and he called with a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm earth and sea, saying, ‘Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God upon their foreheads.’” -Revelation 7:2-3 “On his robe and on his thigh he has a name inscribed, King of kings and Lord of lords.” -Revelation 19:16 This last verse from Revelation is part of John’s prophecy about the destruction of the Roman Empire and the heretofore-invincible Roman armies. The verse shows Christ as the “Master of the Universe” whose Name, which is the Word of God (and, in essence, everything), is more than just a title on a royal garment. Instead, it is something that belongs to Jesus alone and is intrinsically linked to He who is Lord of all…through a unique marking on his body. Again, I want to stress that these verses do not show that God endorses tattoos but that tattoos were an accepted part of society during the biblical era and that there is little evidence to show that God explicitly disapproves of such body art. USING THE VEHICLES OF EVANGELISM Finally, it’s important that Christians realize that Jesus doesn’t want us to hide our faith or keep our faith to ourselves. Just the opposite. He commands us to do everything within our power to let our brothers and sisters know the one true Word, Jesus Christ. “Go, therefore, and make disciples from all the nations.” -Matthew 28:19 “What I tell you in the dark, utter in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim upon the housetops.” -Matthew 10:27In fact, even if we wanted to keep it to ourselves (for selfish reasons or for fear of persecution), once the Spirit moves us, we can longer keep silent:”No one after lighting a lamp puts it in a cellar or under a bushel, but on a stand, that those who enter may see the light.”-Luke 11:33 So, whether we choose eMail messages or tattoos, God, through the Holy Spirit, lets us discover the different and dynamic ways we let others know about Him. One thing is certain, though: as Christians, we need to fully proclaim our beliefs, every day of our lives. It is beyond doubt that tattoos are NOT sinful and that Christians expressing their faith with some ink under their skin have NOT succumbed to Satan’s wiles (at least, not because of the tattoos). Yet, let us remember that just because we are allowed to be tattooed, doesn’t mean that this is what is best for everyone. Paul tells us that we need to be careful that our actions do not lead others away from the faith: “Do not, for the sake of food, destroy the work of God. Everything is indeed clean, but it is wrong for any one to make others fall by what he eats; it is right not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that makes your brother stumble.” -Romans 14:20-21 With that in mind, let us pray that, through the intercession of the Holy Spirit, each of us may understand God’s intention for us, and whether or not that calling includes some permanent ink under our skin. There you have it. The question regarding one’s motives can only be answered between the individual and their God. THE REST OF THE STORY… By the way, the owner of that tattoo shop testified in his eMail to me that, after his wife left him, he sought desperately to find God. One miraculous day, the couple reconciled. Within hours, he had a terrible roll-over that left his vehicle flattened down to the steering wheel. Miraculously, he walked away without a scratch. Since then, both sets of parents, siblings and other relatives have since chosen to follow Jesus, some have been baptized and he is now seeking training for the ministry. He writes, “I want to preach! I have fought it for 20 something years. Real men love Jesus and stand up boldly to proclaim God’s love and grace, and good news! So, I will be the first to want to say GOD DOES INDEED ANSWER PRAYER! As far as your question of where are all the bold Christians? Here I am…..let me preach!” Friends, whether it’s a tattoo shop, a bar or an adult book store, God sent His only Son to die for those who own, frequent or work in these places. He is simply big enough not to be moved by what goes on inside a specific location! He can be trusted and He loves the owners of such establishments enough to do whatever it takes to save them. Do we have the compassion to pray for their salvation - or do we venomously curse them as we pass by and even pray for their downfall? Cellulite: What Really Works!

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

By Glenn Mueller Just when you thought it was safe to dive back into swimsuit season The rising temperatures mean it is time to break out the suntan lotion and head for the beach. Unfortunately, many women will keep themselves covered up, because they are afraid to shed light on their thighs, hips and buttocks. In case you didn’t know, these are the areas most commonly impacted by cellulite. If you have problems with cellulite, you are not alone. Supermodels like Tyra Banks have been known to complain about it. There was even an episode of Ally McBeal in which Callista Flockhart’s amazingly thin main character tells viewers about her struggles with the cottage-cheese-like substance. What is cellulite? Cellulite actually refers to fat that bulges from under your skin. However, you don’t have to be overweight to experience this universally disdained kind of fat. You may have lived a good portion of your life with smooth thighs when, almost out of nowhere, the telltale signs of cellulite appear. What’s the deal? What happens is that the fibers which connect your skin to the layers of fat underneath tend to weaken over time. When they do, fat cells rise to the surface. Cellulite forms when deposits of fat bulge through the strands of connective tissue, separating them into compartments and making them visible through the skin. This creates a sort of “lumpy” look, which many people have unkindly compared to cottage cheese or the outside of an orange peel. The condition is caused by a complex array of factors that include hormones and heredity. Cellulite occurs in women of all shapes and sizes. It does, however, discriminate by gender. Men rarely have problems with cellulite, because they have thicker skin, which makes the fat less apparent. According to the American Cellulite Task Force, nearly 90 percent of women past age 20 will develop cellulite — including dancers, athletes and models. Unfortunately, the fact that cellulite is such a common problem doesn’t make it any more attractive or easier to handle. Here is a general review of the most commonly used methods to fight cellulite: Over The Counter Products You’ll find many over-the-counter products to fight cellulite on drugstore shelves and cosmetic counters. Many of these creams and herbal remedies can help dimply skin appear smoother. Though they may not always offer a permanent solution, researchers admit that the effectiveness of cosmetic products for fighting cellulite has greatly improved in recent years. One of the most notable appears to be the Sublime Slim line from L’Oreal, which have become the best-selling anti-cellulite products in Europe. Sublime Slim Day Anti-Cellulite Skin Sculpting Body Firming Gel and Sublime Slim Night Anti-Cellulite Smoothing Body Toning Gel improve the skin’s condition and tone by stimulating circulation. Laser, Heat And Massage Treatments Based on the theory that massage is an effective treatment for eliminating cellulite, Europeans have been using a procedure called endermology for years. Endermology is a massage technique performed with a machine that uses vacuum-assisted rollers. The vacuum action pulls skin into the rollers. The action is said to improve circulation and to help disperse fat. Endermology has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration as a treatment that “temporarily decreases the appearance of cellulite” and is available at many plastic surgeons’ offices. The average cost of endermology treatments is about $100 each, and patients usually receive two treatments a week for a 10-week period. A newer device, called VelaSmooth, combines heat and massage in order to smooth the skin. In addition to the rollers, this device uses infrared light and radio frequency in order to send heat directly into the body to break down fat. Apparently, Velasmooth treatments cost about $200 each, and patients typically receive two 45-minute treatments every week. Though the VelaSmooth device is currently being used throughout Europe and Canada, it is still undergoing clinical trials in the United States. According to recent reports in the Los Angeles Times, it is expected to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration later this year. A laser device called Triactive was approved for use in the United States last year. It combines massage with a low-energy laser in order to stimulate and tighten your skin. The Triactive treatments can range from $80 to $150 each, and physicians recommend that patients receive a weekly or bi-weekly series of 10-12 treatments. After that, most people continue to appear for one treatment every month. Mesotherapy Another popular treatment for cellulite that has been the focus of much media attention is mesotherapy. Originally developed in France, this treatment involves injecting small amounts of drugs or natural ingredients into the fat and connective tissue under the skin. Mesotherapy treatments cost about $500 each, and patients are usually required to undergo a series of 10-15 treatments with annual follow-up appointments. The Bottom Line The “bottom” line: Experts agree: the safest, most effective way to make cellulite disappear is by trading the fat that causes it for muscle. And the only way to accomplish that is with those old standbys, diet and exercise — in particular, combining aerobic activity, which burns fat, with strength training, which builds muscle. Try walking, running or cycling for at least 30 minutes, three times a week, and alternating with strength-training exercises. Drinking at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day may also help fade the fat by flushing toxins out of the body and helping to fuel fat metabolism. The Five Biggest Marketing Mistakes made by Personal Trainers and Fitness Professionals

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

By Lea Woodward Mistake #1 - Failing to Focus on the BENEFITS that your Product or Service offers your Customers and Clients If you go to buy a TV, what are you actually buying? Are you buying the equipment…the combination of electronics and wires and the casing that surrounds it? Or are you actually buying the BENEFITS of the TV…the sound you will hear, the picture you will see, the pleasure you will get from flopping down in front of a widescreen TV to enjoy your favourite movie, perhaps the significance and joy that you get from owning a TV larger than the your neighbour across the road! If you can understand the following principle, your marketing will instantly improve:People dont buy your product or service. They buy the benefits that your product or service offers them. But this assumes you understand the benefits of your services yourself! Do you know why your existing clients work with you? If not, ask them! You may find that the reasons differ…one may work with you because of the motivation you bring, another because of the fun you inject into their training, another because you help them feel better about themselves. So spend some time getting clear on what exactly your benefits are and then make sure that you articulate them precisely in all of your marketing communications. Mistake #2 Relying on just one or two main forms of Marketing As a personal trainer of CHEK professional, you are probably using one or two main forms of marketing to grow your business. Perhaps you use word of mouth referrals or ads in your local gym? If you really want to grow your business, your aim should be to set up a multi-level marketing machine that works tirelessly for you to generate new clients on an ongoing basis. And that combines several marketing forms in one. You do not want to fall into the trap of so many trainers, who go all out to get new clients, spend their time training those clients & forget about marketing for a while, then when those clients leave, have to spend a few weeks or months getting more. Do you? So what additional forms of marketing are there? Have a look at the following: Direct mail Referrals Advertising Pay Per Click Telephone marketing Email marketing PR Joint Ventures What would happen if you were to double the number of marketing strategies that you currently use, consistently over the next few years? Mistake #3 - Running Ineffective Advertising Have you ever spent a few hundred pounds to advertise in the local Yellow Pages? Do you know how successful it was for you? What your return on investment was? Many personal trainers & fitnessprofessionals get caught up in spending money they do not really have on advertising. It can be a highly effective way of generating new clients and increasing your business but it can also be a costly mistake. The main causes of an ineffective advertising campaign are: Badly written adverts Lack of testing to see how successful it is Before you consider advertising in anything, consider this: Make sure you write compelling & action-oriented copy. Get your prospective clients to take action once they have read your ad. Either calling or emailing to get a free report or some form of response. This is the only way you will know if your advert is working for you or not. Make sure you get the headline right as this is your only chance to get somebody to read your ad. If the headline is rubbish, they will not read further than that.. Mistake #4 - Not Communicating Effectively with Existing or Former Clients Your best immediate sources of additional profits and increased business are your existing or former clients. These are the people who you have already invested time, energy and money with to create a relationship. They know you, they trust you, hopefully they have enjoyed training with you. Because of this it is normally five to ten times easier to get an existing client to buy from you again, than it is to get someone to buy from you for the first time. You might then be asking, if this is true, why do so few businesses do this well? Think about some of the companies who do. Amazon for example. Do you get their emails telling you about new books they have recently released that might be of interest to you, based on your previous purchases? That is a great example of keeping in touch with existing customers. Imagine th: if you could keep your existing clients in a ‘ready & willing to buy state; so that if you suggest a great new service or product, they are just desperate to buy; would you want that? So if you apply this principle to your business, here are some useful questions to answer: How often do you communicate with your existing or former clients? What do you have to offer your existing or former clients? What are you not offering existing or former clients that you could be offering them? When did you last send a letter to your former clients? When did you last email them? Did you measure the response? When did you last call them? When you do communicate with them, what more could you be doing to clearly explain the specific benefits that they will experience? Here are some more useful questions to maximize your relationship with existing or former clients: Do you spend at least 15 minutes each month thinking of an exclusive offer you can make to your clients? Do you say thank you to yourclients either by letter, email or telephone? Do you ask your clients for referrals? If, as a personal trainer of CHEK professional you have a limited service or product line, do you know of additional companies, products or services that your clients could benefit from? Mistake # 5 - Not using Email Marketing Effectively Would you like to be able to communicate directly with your existing clients and potential clients for free, any time you like and as often as you like? Anywhere in the world? For free!! Well, with email marketing you can. The power of the internet is immense. Where else can you market to people who are looking for just what you provide precisely at the moment that they are looking for you? Where else can you find out instantly whether theres a market for a new service or product you are thinking of offering? To make email or internet marketing work for you, you must: Capture the email details of every potential, interested client Use the emails to contact these potential, interested clients on a fairly regular basis Personalise your email communicationsIf you can avoid these 5 big mistakes when marketing your personal training or fitness-based business, then you will be ahead of most of your competitors and easily attract new clients.
